| A mule powering a cotton gin - the way it used to be. |
A team of mules hitched to a turnstile that powers a working pre-civil war cotton gin is just one of the interesting demonstrations to see at the 19th annual John Blue Cotton Festival in Laurinburg, North Carolina. Held each year on the second weekend in October, the festival draws folks from near and far to see how our forefathers lived and worked. This event is held on the second weekend of October each year.

Entertainment, food, crafts, displays and demonstrations provide plenty to fill a crisp fall day outdoors. The Coastline Band and great beach music will be a big attraction along with bluegrass and more music for everyone. The Cotton Blossom Railroad excites the kids with rides behind a real steam powered miniature locomotive. A shingle mill cuts wooden shingles, and fresh ground corn meal pours from an operating grist mill.
Tour the historic John Blue House, recently restored to its former splendor. Arts, crafts, antiques, hayrides, old timey games, an old timey fair, early engines and tractors, a petting farm and an old style Sunday church service on the grounds round out the offerings. Or just relax and talk with friends while the Festival swirls around you. It's a great way to spend the day!
