Anatomy of a Shrimp
Anatomy
The common shrimp is broken down into eight major parts, six abdominal segments, the first through the sixth, the "Carapace" or head, and the "Telson", or the tail stem. The eyes are located on either side of the "Rostrum" which is protruding from the top, front, center of the "carpace" or head. The mouth is located on the bottom front between the two "Antennae", just before the 5 pairs of walking legs. The swimming legs are found along the first five abdominal segments, with the sixth abdominal segment the only legless one. Even the telson, or tail has "Uropods" or the flippers that propel the shrimp through the water.
